Last Wednesday, about fifty educators and entrepreneurs gathered in the basement of an Atlanta landmark hotel, The Biltmore, which is also home to a hodgepodge of coders, designers and thought leaders, collectively known as Hypepotamus. Scott Henderson, Hype’s Executive Director, likes to say the future of Atlanta depends on moving from the current state of “Fragmented Awesomeness” to “Connected Awesomeness”. That’s exactly what the Ed-tech Meetup’s mission is about. Many of those who attended the meetup expressed surprise at the number of others they met for the first time who are working on some aspect of innovation in the education market. Before this, and the previous Meetup that was held in February, they truly believed they were working in a vacuum. We need to change that and that is what these meetups and the ed-tech community are all about. If you want to help out, please get in touch with me, via email (garogers at bellsouth dot net) or via Twitter (at startupangel). If there are web developers or designers who want to put a site together, great, that’s definitely above my pay-grade. Some have suggested using Google Groups, so I have created a group for this purpose, to which I will invite everyone on our attendance list:
Another possibility is a LinkedIn group. In the meantime, I will continue to post items of interest to the group here on startupangel.org
Our next Meetup will likely be close to Labor Day, after the new school year has gotten started. But let’s not wait that long to continue the dialogue. Have a great summer!
